What is good but affordable or free video editing software for side by side videos?

What is good but affordable or free video editing software for side by side videos? Like if I shot something with two different cameras from different angles and I want them together side by side in the same file, like that famous John Williams tribute music video. I have Windows Vista. It came with Windows Movie Maker but I couldn’t figure out how to do it in there.

Movie maker is the best free movie making software,I think,,if you have a window system it always has movie maker.

But to make better slideshows you you need to pay for commercial software,it’s worthy.
If you are looking for more advanced and professioanl but still user friendly software, i will recommend wondershare photo&video edting suit which can produce some genuine looking film effects doesn’t take some learning.
you can get more information and sample videos on its offical site:

Ugh, I’m getting really sick of these spam-bots. Honestly, that program kind of sucks.

Sony Vegas 9, but get 8 if you can. (Why? I personally like 8 better. All the capabilities are the same, but the user interface is different) Anyway, in both you can do as many side-by-sides as you want, as long as your computer’s ram can handle it. It’s $79 by download.

Do you want to make picture in picture effect?

I previously contacted womble’s tech-support and they told me how to do this, here are the steps(copied from the email):

    1. create a set of "Picture in Picture" video effect
operators and add them to "MyList" for use in the 2nd part.

    - in the editor’s Project Manager, press the "Effect" tab
and select the "2D" list, and find the transition named
    "Picture in picture"

    - double click on its icon to bring up its settings window

    - choose "Percent" from the Style drop-down list

    - set the parameters for Position and Size

    - press "MyList" to add it in the customized video effect list

    - repeat the last 2 steps for each settings

    - for this example, select the following 4 parameter sets

    image quarter upper-left upper-right lower-left lower-right
    ………………………………….…
    Position (x,y) 0, 0 50, 0 0,50 50,50
    Size (width, height) 50,50 50,50 50,50 50,50

which divide the image of "P in P" as one of the 4 quarters.

    2. apply recursively the above effect operators to 4 video clips
to create a new video clip with each occupying one quarter.

    a) add one video clip to the timeline

    b) copy and paste it to duplicate the clip

    c) drag and drop the "upper-left" PinP onto the two clips

    d) change the transition length to the full length of the video clip

    e) save the timeline as "test1.wbp"

    f) clear the timeline

    g) while holding down the Ctrl key, drag and drop the "test1.wbp"
onto the timeline, so that the timeline project is added as a clip

    - repeat steps a), c) through g) for the 2nd video and "upper-right"
effect operator; for the 3rd video and "lower-right"; and for the
    4th video and "lower-right".

Oh, you can download the editor called mpeg video wizard on the official site: http://womble.com/

    Good luck.
